Dry skin vs dehydrated skin. How to make the difference
Hello, beautiful people! I hope you are enjoying the begging of the spring, the warm sun and the positive energy that surrounds us. I surely do, because this is my favorite time of the year! Today we will cover a very hot topic: the difference between dry skin and dehydrated skin. Personally, until a few years ago I didn't know to distinguish between the two and this was my biggest obstacle in finding the most suitable skin care products.
So, if you havedry skin, it means you are lacking oil.Sebum is the oily substance from our skin that lubricates, protects and nourishes the skin, preventing it from drying out. When a product is moisturizing, it means that it will help you regulate the sebum production, but also it will prevent water content in the skin from evaporating. A lot of people thinks that sebum is bad, which is wrong. Actually, it is essential for a beautiful glowing skin and protects the skin from bacterial, prevents premature aging, maintaining the skin's flexibility. Having the right balance of sebum production is the challenge.
More about this, you will read in a future post, where I will make also a list with the best skin care products to relieve dry skin. Stay tuned!
A dehydrated skin lacks water. If you skin looks tired, dull, feels tight, sensitive and has many fine lines and wrinkles, then it needs to be better hydrated. The main causes for dehydration are: aging, weather, air conditioning, lifestyle, diet. Having a dehydrated skin doesn't exclude having an oily skin in the same time. Actually, when skin is dehydrated, it creates more oil to compensate for the missing water. It's like a vicious cycle.
Now everybody will tell you to drink lot of water, but I personally do not believe that this is the solution. It surely helps, but I drink enough water/day and it doesn't shows in my skin. So I turn to cosmetic products formulated to increase water content to plump up the skin.
If you want to know which products are my favourite, check this post.
Have a wonderful day!
Hugs and kisses!
